We recently sat down to review our talent database at the office, a list of over 800 aspiring talents we’ve encountered over the years. As we looked at the names, a startling pattern emerged.
Out of hundreds of people, only about 100 consistently stood out.
It wasn’t necessarily because they were the most “naturally gifted” or had the most striking looks. It was something deeper. When the red light of the camera turned on, these 100 people knew how to own the room. They communicated with confidence, took direction with ease, and expressed themselves without the paralysing weight of self-doubt.
It made us wonder: Where does that “spark” come from? And more importantly, why do so many others lose it along the way?
The “Gap” in the Creative Journey
We realised that for many adults, the biggest hurdle isn’t a lack of talent, it’s the layers of fear and “second-guessing” that we pick up as we grow older. We wait until we are 25 or 30 to try and find our voices, only to realise we’ve spent years silencing them.
That realisation sparked a question that changed everything for us: What if these skills were nurtured earlier?
What if a child was given the space to build creativity and presence before the world told them to be quiet? What if owning the room” was a skill they mastered at age ten, rather than a goal they chased at thirty?
Introducing: The Rising Star Program
That thought gave birth to the Rising Star Program. We decided to stop waiting for “the 100” to show up at our door and start helping the next generation become them.
This isn’t just another holiday camp. It is a one-week acting and public speaking masterclass specifically designed for learners aged 8–14.
Together with a team of seasoned industry facilitators, including Michael Tamale, Tracy Kababito, and Sharon Gayita we are creating a sanctuary for expression. We aren’t just teaching kids how to read lines; we are teaching them how to believe in the sound of their own voices.
From the Classroom to the Film Set
We believe that confidence is best forged through experience. That’s why the programme doesn’t end with a certificate; it ends with a real creative production.
At the end of the week, every participant will step into a professional short film production. They will see how a set works, feel the weight of a script in their hands, and experience the magic of seeing their performance captured on screen.
Because Confidence Can’t Wait
Sometimes, a career in the arts, or a successful life in any industry, doesn’t begin when you’re “grown-up”.
It begins with one opportunity. One room. One week where someone looked at a young person and said, “Your voice matters, and we are ready to listen.”
The Rising Star Program is that room!
