Profound Lessons from My Interview with Lifetime Achievement Award Winner Philip Luswata-Kafuluma

I recently had the pleasure of interviewing a remarkable actor Philip Luswata-Kafuluma from Uganda, who was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Uganda Film Festival (UFF). This conversation inspired me, and I want to share a few profound insights that stood out.

1️⃣ Challenges are opportunities.
This resonated deeply with me because every challenge indeed carries lessons and opportunities for growth. A friend recently told me only the dead are not challenged and that we should be glad we are challenged. Embracing this mindset has been a game-changer in my journey.

2️⃣ As a beginner, offer yourself up for exploitation 📈.
This hit home for me, reminding me of my early days when exploitation led to opportunities. It’s a harsh truth in the creative world, but those initial experiences often open doors to future gigs. I think in the film industry, exploitation never stops, you stop accepting it 📌 . For new actors or creatives entering the industry: work for exposure, as its value grows with you and your career.

3️⃣ Don’t get attached to experiences 🌅.
This advice is invaluable in both our careers and personal lives. Every day is new, and we must stay open to the possibility of better or worse experiences. This mindset allows for continuous growth and adaptation.

4️⃣ People are naturally wired to consume good art 🎨.
This is something we all inherently know. Quality art resonates with audiences, and striving for excellence in our creative endeavours is essential.

I highly recommend that actors watch the full conversation. There’s so much to learn from his journey and experiences.
